In response to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and in order to promote the development of China's sustainable design industry and the growth of China's young design talents, the Beijing Foundation for Contemporary Art launched the China Sustainable Design Awards and Sustainable Design Funding Program for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022.
In 2021, under the theme of "Community Building", 774 applications were received from all over the country, and 8 best cases were selected, involving spatial design, visual design, product design, youth innovation and other directions in both urban and rural categories. With the theme of "Public Participation" in 2022, more than 300 applications were received from all over China. One best work and two excellent works in each of the five funding areas of public space design, public product design, public graphic design, science and technology and new media design, and youth creative design were selected, and a total of 15 designers/teams were awarded the final honorary grants.
As one of the series activities of Shenzhen International Low Carbon City-2023 Public Art Exhibition, "Sustainable Design in China: 2021-2022 Achievement Exhibition" is jointly presented by Shenzhen Frontier Fringe Art Center and Beijing Foundation for Contemporary Art, reviewing the outstanding award-winning works of the two competitions, and presenting new and dynamic prospects for future development from the perspectives of rural revitalization, recycled materials, ecological co-creation, natural art, sustainable education, cultural diversity, young talents, ethnic minorities and female creativity. The exhibition reviews the outstanding winning works of the two competitions and presents a new and dynamic future development prospect from the perspectives of rural revitalization, recycled materials, ecological co-creation, nature art, sustainable education, cultural diversity, young talents, ethnic minorities, female creativity, etc. It calls for a number of issues in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): sustainable urban communities, responsible consumption and production, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and industrial innovation. To help young design talents collaborate with each other and bring more far-reaching impact on sustainable thinking, we believe that a sustainable future cannot be achieved without the participation of all forces. In the future, we will further promote the public participation, cross-border cooperation and industry development of sustainable design to serve the public more sustainably.
