2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the Fringe Festival, which coincides with the eighth year of the Shenzhen Bay Fringe Festival. To commemorate this special moment, Shenzhen Fringe will be held on July 11th at World Fringe Day. Blah Blah Blah, 70, invites Fringers along the way to share their wonderful stories with the Shenzhen Bay Fringe Festival and celebrate "8/70".
The origin of the Fringe Festival dates back to 1947, when eight groups of theatre groups were not invited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival, when a Scottish playwright and journalist used fringe (intentional: edge, Wheat ears) symbolize this cultural phenomenon, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Today, more than 200 countries around the world hold the Fringe Festival, which has become one of the world's most popular art events.
Since its entry into Shenzhen in 2010, the Fringe Festival has continued the spirit of diversity, pioneering and freedom of the world's Fringe. It attracts numerous artistic expressions with an open, inclusive and independent attitude, and focuses on the creativity and explosiveness of the city of Shenzhen.
